Team My Two Dimples Smile At You

My name is LeDonna Rollins and I am a recently diagnosed brain tumor survivor and advocate for brain tumor awareness.

One fall morning I woke up and told my husband “we need a new tv because I can not see the letters/words." I thought it was because I was turning 50 that year and my eye sight was getting bad. It could have been the genes passed down from my father who had bad eyesight. Or from overuse while working at home during COVID on the laptop. So my husband and I went and got an eye exam.

On February 21, 2022 I sat in the exam room and they began to conduct their exam. I explained that I was not able to see the chart which led to more testing. Dr. Roby (who saved my life) then gave me a write up to take to my doctor for a MRI and a referral to another optometrist. The optometrist ran more extensive testing when he noticed that I didn’t pass any of the exams. He said he needed to contact my doctor asap because I needed to see an endocrinologist. In addition, I was scheduled to get a MRI on April 11th. My appointment for the endocrinologist was on April 20th where they informed me that I had Pituitary gland issues and had a tumor on my brain almost the size of a Tennis ball. Thank God I had an appointment with a Neurosurgeon the following day. By this time I could not see anything on my right side and my vision was blurred and getting worse. The Neurosurgeon jumped into action and scheduled my surgery date and an appointment with an ENT. They explained that the tumor was right behind my nasal passage and they would go through my nose (which is newer technology) to remove it. On May 4th I had a 5 hour successful surgery and the tumor was removed. I was released from the hospital on May 8th best mother’s day gift to my mom.

Now just one year post surgery I am declaring victory as a brain tumor warrior! My friends, family, sorority sisters and I are now walking to spread awareness and to support others who are dealing with this condition. The Mary E. Smith Foundation, Inc. is an organization that is bringing awareness to this fight and supporting patients & families on their brain tumor journey.

Team My Two Dimples Smile at You is raising funds in support of this 501c3 nonprofit charity. MESF has three dedicated programs for the brain tumor community. They are the FIND-A-CURE, AIM HIGH and SAVE-A-LIFE initiatives. These programs fund research, provide scholarships and give financial support to brain tumor patients and their families.

Through community fundraising events, MESF has contributed over $100,000 towards the fight against brain tumors. They are dedicated to making a difference by spreading awareness about this devastating condition. Your SUPPORT is instrumental to the success of these endeavors.
